On Sunday, 12th March, we hosted the annual Wik Memorial Triathlon. We had a number of parents, staff, students and alumni taking part in the event with very good results. What a start to this year’s event it was with the swimming leg taking place in torrential rain!
We saw an outstanding performance in the Stanfordian event by parent, Walt Katzke, finishing in 1st place in a fast time of 2h12! Eating his dust (or mud) and in 3rd place was alumnus Matthew Wilkinson followed by alumnus Justyn Trueman and parent, Sean Fairhead.
The Wik Junior category was won by our own Tristan Brett in a time of 1h23! Isabella Dando won the Junior Girls category in fine style. Ryno Schultz also competed in the Junior category. In the Wik Open event alumnus, Lia Revelas, won the ladies category with Britt Dando in second and Lia’s older sister Anja Volker/ Revelas in third place. Another alumnus, Stuart Hillary, finished second in the Male category. We also had great performances from Chris Dando, alumnus Michael Scriven, Roelof Niemann, Hans Boyum, Tertius van Wyngardt and Sophie Nieman.
In the Wik teams event we had the “3 Simms” (Max Drewett, Gordon Noel and Marc Day) taking the honors in the Junior Boys event with a time of 1h11! The “No nuts, just guts’ team (Jenny Zhang, Rachel Göbel and Nanaki Kgopong) winning the Junior Girls category. And so the list can go on and on of parents and students competing in various teams. Well done to Miss Bredenhann with a stellar performance and completing her first triathlon – without any training!
Well done to every competitor and all the marshals / staff that helped out on the day to make this event such a success. It is a true family event.
