Letaba Educational Trust

The Letaba Educational Trust was created to raise funds by the issue of Debentures for the development of Stanford Lake College.

The aims and objectives of Stanford Lake College are to promote, foster and advance the interests of our School, the learners attending it and the staff employed by it.

These aims and objectives are best achieved by alignment with the Independent Schools movement and other associated institutions and by means of sound management practices exercised in the overall governance of Stanford Lake College.

The Stanford Charter

Stanford Lake College, founded in 1998, is an independent English medium co-educational high school situated in the Limpopo province of South Africa. Four hundred kilometres northeast of Johannesburg lies the Magoebaskloof, picturesquely sited between Tzaneen and Polokwane, near the hamlet of Haenertsburg. The College is idyllically situated on the banks of Lakeside and Stanford Lakes, near Ebenezer dam in the Wolkberg Mountains, which form part of the northern Drakensberg range. The slopes are covered with indigenous forests as well as large tracts of pine forests, an important feature of the Magoebaskloof region. We are a people of optimism, imagination and commitment. Stanford Lake College is a place of learning where acceptance and belonging prevail. We value the unique richness of every individual member of the school community. At Stanford we thrive on challenges and stretching ourselves beyond the ordinary...

The Trust Charter

Charter for Stanford Lake College Board members Duties The overriding duty of any Board member is to act at all times in the best interests of the College. Thus, while Board members are accountable to stakeholders for their actions, they do not owe the stakeholders a duty to act in their best interests per se. Board members have three main duties, applicable to all circumstances, arising from their relationship with the College as individuals:

  • a duty of care, meaning the requirement to exhibit the degree of care, diligence and skill that may reasonably be expected from individuals with their knowledge and experience;

  • a fiduciary duty, meaning the requirement to act in good faith and in the College’s best interests; and

  • a duty to act within their powers and authority.
