Every student attending Stanford has to have the use of a debenture. Such use is either acquired by purchasing a debenture or using a debenture owned by someone else, which the school would facilitate.

 

If a debenture is purchased it can be used by your own child while at school at Stanford, and therefore no debenture rental will be charged to your school account on an annual basis. Once the student has left Stanford it can be sold again. The value of a debenture is currently fixed at R35,000 and may be increased by the Board of Trustees in the future.

If you decide not to purchase a debenture but rather rent another person’s debenture, debenture rental will be charged to your school account per term. The Board of Trustees determines the debenture rental amount on a yearly basis in conjunction with new year tuition and boarding fees.
